J&J Worldwide Services Industrial Controls Technician in Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio

General Summary

Installs, maintains, tests, troubleshoots, repairs, operates, modifies, optimizes, and calibrates highly complex systems of electronic, DDC, and pneumatic control front end devices, control components, and sensors related to facilities HVAC systems IAW Appendix G (Information Assurance Requirements) and Appendix H – Equipment List.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs pretest and operational (functional) testing; alignment; and/or calibration of highly complex pneumatic, electronic, and DDC systems, front end devices, components, and/or subassemblies.

  • Replaces, repairs, adjusts, configures, and/or modifies pneumatic, electronic, and DDC industrial control systems, front end devices, components, and/or subassemblies.

  • Downloads and uploads programing to replacement devices/controllers/components.

  • Performs preventive maintenance on electronic, pneumatic, and DDC systems to include disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, and calibration.

  • Utilizes safety and security practices and procedures following established rules and regulations and maintains a safe, clean, and secure work environment.

Knowledge, Experience and Skill Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ commercial / industrial experience is required.

  • Must demonstrate the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities gained through training and/or experience to perform the duties described above.

  • Accredited certificates of training from Johnson Controls or SIEMENS or approved trainers of those manufacturers’ controls training school(s) is required to be granted access to the base controls network. System access will be revoked if training certificates are not provided with-in 6 months of assuming the position.

  • Minimal training requirements includes the following:

  1. Fundamentals course; Johnson Controls-Fundamental Control Strategies for HVAC Systems Course 215 (or current curriculum equivalency course)

  2. For access to Talon systems; Cochrane Supply –Niagara Operations course (or current curriculum equivalency course).

  3. For access to Metasys Systems; Johnson Controls-Metasys System Extended Architecture (MSEA) for Building Operators Course 388 (or current curriculum equivalency course).

Fundamentals course . Course curriculum encompasses HVAC Environment, Systems and Controls, Psychometrics, Air Properties and HVAC Processes, Control System Fundamentals, Sensor Types and Applications, Controls System Configurations, Feedforward and Feedback Control Loops, Reset Control Strategies, Controlled Devices: Valves, Dampers, and Actuators, Hot/Chilled Water Distribution Systems, Control Strategies for Water Distribution Systems, Hot/Chilled Water Terminal Systems, Control Strategies for Water Terminal Systems, Air Distribution Systems, Control Strategies for Air Distribution Systems • 100% OA System Control Strategies, Mixed Air System Control Strategies, Variable Air Volume Control Strategies, VAV Terminal Unit Control Strategies, Introduction to Facility Management Systems, Hands-on Labs, Final Review

Niagara Operations Course . Course curriculum encompasses various HVAC systems in a typical facility management and DDC control system, how to access a Niagara AX and Niagara 4 system from a standard web browser and work with alarming, schedules and other functions to include Introduction to Facility Management Systems (FMS), Introduction to Networking, the Physics of the Operations, introduction to Controls, introduction to Primary Plant Equipment, control loop operations, Jace Lab 1 - Control Loops, ASHRAE Systems, Jace Lab 2 - The Fan Coil, AHU Operations, Jace Lab 3 - The MASP AHU, VAV Boxes, Introduction to Graphics and Troubleshooting FMS Systems.

Metasys System Extended Architecture for Building Operator Course 388 . Course curriculum encompasses Metasys® System Extended Architecture Overview, Help File System, Basic Navigation of the System with the User Interface, Commanding Objects, Scheduling, Setting up Alarms, Responding to Alarms, Trending, Totalization, Graphics, Hands on Lab, Final Review

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs., squat, bend, stoop and kneel for short periods, climb a ladder, stand for long periods of time, constant arm extensions.

  • Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, but none to the point of being disagreeable. May involve minor safety hazards where likely result would be cuts, bruises, etc.
